Christ LIFE in the New Year
Galatians 2: 20 teaches us that Jesus desires to express His LIFE in us! Wow!
Have you ever thought about who, i.e., which Believers are able to live the Christian LIFE? The truth is none can. You see, the Christian LIFE is Jesus' LIFE and only He is able to live His life. An amazing thought isn't it? Only Jesus can live His LIFE!
What is the most common question asked in the Church? What must I do? We are all interested in "DOING"; what must I do? But the key is not in "DOING"; rather it is in "BEING"; being in Christ.
The phrase "In Christ", in its various forms, is used 164 times in the New Testament. You think our Father wants us to get something under our belts? He begins Ephesians with, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ". IN CHRIST! Some refer to this as positional theology. Granted! Yet you and I can experience this truth. Even more so, I believe the Scriptures teach us; this is the key to living a victorious Christian LIFE; to experiencing Jesus' LIFE - "BEING IN CHRIST".
"What must I DO?"
I think the real question is "What is Jesus doing?" If I "BE" in Christ than it makes since that I am doing what Christ is doing - right? Not always! Why does my condition not always match my position? The answer is quite simple - I am not surrendered. Jesus desires to express His Life in each of us, who are His children. The Word is the map of how Jesus thinks, chooses, and feels. So surrender really means that I make a choice to cooperate with Jesus expressing His LIFE in me. SURRENDERED! "I SURRENDER all."
What must I DO? Surrender! We don't think of surrender as "DOING". Surrender is to give up all the "DOING" and rest and live in "BEING IN CHRIST". Experiencing Jesus LIFE divinely "DOING" all that needs to be done. It may appear that I am the one "DOING" but you and I know the truth. Jesus is the One DOING; and I am sitting at His feet, often cradled in His arms as He carries me day after day living His LIFE through me.
Sure He uses my personality and individuality. He made me just for this sweet and unique fellowship with Him. He uses this damaged body of mine to carry out His choices. He shares His thoughts and feelings with me and as I surrender to them it looks like me "DOING"; yet all the while He is living His own life through me for the world to see.
The key to Christ LIFE, the Victorious Christian LIFE, is SURRENDER!!! "None of me; all of Him!" Paul writes the famous yet profound words of Almighty God; "My grace (what I will do that you cannot), my GRACE is sufficient!"
Does this make us passive and lazy? Does this mean we are doing nothing? Does this mean I don't have to obey? Heaven's NO, to all three questions! As Christ lives His LIFE in and through us (and I like to say - for us) we are very busy DOING ALL He has planned for us to DO. The key is not "what must I do"; the key is SURRENDER! "I Surrender All"!!!
Surrender to Jesus' thoughts, choices and feelings. How do I know what these are? I'm glad you asked.
The Word! This is why it is so important for us to read, study, and learn the Scriptures. That is NOT something we have to do but the Word is our very heartbeat. The Word is alive! The Word of God, the words of Jesus are LIFE; our LIFE! Psalm 119:44-48 reads:
I will keep on obeying your instructions forever
and ever. I will walk in freedom, for I have
devoted myself to your commandments. I will speak to kings about your laws, and I will not be ashamed.
How I delight in your commands!
How I love them!
I honor and love your commands. I meditate on your decrees.
One last thought, Psalm 119:44-48 teaches what the believer's real thoughts are and how he/she truly feels. Any thoughts, choices, or feelings that contradict these precious words are those lies of the Flesh, which is the Devil's secret agent masquerading as "me". The Scriptures instruct and guide me into my new identity: my true thoughts, choices, and feelings.
Here is real surrender and freedom. 1 Cor. 2:16 reads:
"For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
All Believers share Jesus mind - His thoughts, His choices, and His feelings. This means YOU! So the next time you ask or when you are asked, "what must I do?" Let your answer be SURRENDER!!! What a paradigm!
